What Is A Steam Pressure Reducing Valve?

Generally speaking, Lined Valve is a self-operated regulating valve, and its selection requirements are basically similar to those of automatic control valves. It is necessary to consider factors such as steam channel (volume flow), regulation characteristics and maximum flow (noise and vibration), adjustment ratio, minimum opening, etc.

The basic necessary parameters for selecting the diameter of steam pressure reducing valves include parameters such as inlet steam pressure, outlet steam pressure, average steam flow, and steam pipe diameter. One is to calculate the design Cv value (or KV value) of the steam load. This can be obtained according to a simplified formula, and sometimes this Cv value is reflected in the data sheet provided by the design institute.

Each pressure reducing valve has an inherent flow, that is, the maximum Cv value. The inherent maximum Cv value of the valve must cover the required design Cv value, and the optimal working range should be guaranteed to be between 15% and 90%. It can be seen that it is sometimes difficult or complicated to calculate and select steam pressure reducing valves using formulas, and certain professional knowledge is required. For some simple applications, Watt provides a selection table to help customers quickly select. Only inlet pressure, outlet pressure and steam flow are required.

This simple selection method is sometimes not accurate enough, and for some harsh working conditions, the flow rate, noise, vibration, cavitation, etc. must be checked by software or formula selection.

Sometimes it is difficult to estimate the application of steam flow during on-site technical transformation or replacement. If the pressure reduction ratio is less than 5:3, it is one diameter smaller than the upstream steam pipe; if the pressure reduction ratio is greater than 5:3, it can be up to 5:1, which is generally 2-3 diameters smaller than the steam pipe.

The diameter of the steam pressure reducing valve must be consistent with the pipe diameter when the on-site installation is required. You can choose a customized pressure reducing valve to reduce the flow to match the load.
